The Mooring Field is Filling Up

Sarasota is a thriving city and Marina Jack is right downtown. From the water, the skyline of Sarasota at night is quite stunning with the lighted domes of the Spanish architecture. The mooring field is a nice compromise between paying out the wazoo for dockage and anchoring out. A storm is supposed to come in tomorrow and so a lot of boats are moving into the Marina. We plan to ride the storm out here and we will have plenty of company. Tonight, we went out to get into the dingy to go to dinner and realized our dingy had broken the rope and was floating free. Our neighbor on a sailboat saw it at the same time and went in his dingy to retrieve it. Thankfully—it would have been a long swim. Our neighbor turned out to be a gregarious chap named Bob from Paducah, Ky. He said his wife left him 2 years ago and he went on Ebay and bought himself a boat. He pierced his ear the first of this year and apparently this was his biggest declaration of independence. The boat is a “fixer-upper” and he says now he only takes direction now from his cat. He is not sure where they are going after his month here. We went to dinner at the beach bar here and had good sandwiches and better people watching.
