Heading North toward Belhaven

We head out of Whitaker Point Marina near Oriental (only a day late) on a beautiful Monday morning following an overcast, misty and blustery weekend. Oriental is the "Sailboating Capital of North Carolina" with about 1,000 residents and 3,500 boats. Nice people at Whitaker Pt. plus platinum Loopers/new friends-- Pam and Jim Shipp aboard Silver Boots. Jim and Fitz had long talks about engines, weather and cruising stops. Pam has kept a log of their travels including the loop twice which she shared and will be very helpful. Both are fantastic cooks with some recipes to try. They have a beautiful 49 ft. Defever that made us drool and the knowledge and experiences shared have given us real insight on the travels the next couple of months. . We took the courtesy car and found Paul’s Produce (great peaches) and Fulcher’s road side seafood market (soft shell crab that we sautéed--yum ) in the small burg of Oriental but mostly we just R&R’ed and cleaned the boat. As we head north, the Neuse River has calmed and we head to Pamlico Sound where we have mail waiting for us and some parts that we ordered. Jelly Fish are really numerous in this area and when we anchored we looked behind us and there was an eagle flying toward us.

Whitaker's Point--nice and peaceful marina

Weird boat supposedly built by an area engneer to prove something?!

Calm waters of the Pamlico Sound full of Jellyfish and surrounded by pine trees
