Pump issue—what pump issue.
Best we can tell the pumping sound was a tree frog and the inverter had nothing to do
with it. Fitz cleaned the contacts from the inverter to the batteries and it
carried the refrigerator and anything we needed for over 12 hours. Nice to have the mechanic onboard. Note we did not need the air conditioner. Julia would say that the weather is
absolutely perfect. Lows at night are around 50 degrees and with
the wind and rain it was nippy. Today
the high is said to be around 63…in the sun it is shorts and T-shirts. We have had 2 days of wind and rain but this
morning we woke up to sun and calm. You
would think that it would be perfect to cross Lake Ontario..not. We went through the last Oswego Lock and fog
covered the lake and was moving into Oswego.
So we pulled into the Oswego Marina, plugged in, washed the boat and prepared
to hit the lake tomorrow. Relax we are
not on a schedule.
This is a good time to tell about the Duchess of Chaos. In Phoenix we met up with a 41’ Gulfstar
named the Duchess of Chaos. Greg and
Janis (about our age) are from Owensboro, KY/Kentucky Dam Marina and have been
on the Great Loop for 7 months. They
have 5 adopted children and a dog on board, all well-mannered, well dressed and
clean. The children are aged 6 to 13 and
they were docked behind us at Phoenix and again in Oswego and they have been
nothing but cheerful, active kids—they informed us they were “boat
schooled”. They play beside the boats in
the park-like grass, put on lifejackets only when near the water on the
seawall or on the deck of the boat They seem to be a great crew
for locking and docking and the littlest one is really good at curling the rope
just so on the dock. All seem to be
having a wonderful time—they reminded us of Leeton and Holden –one of the little
girls looked at me and said “aww—you have a necklace” –Leeton loves my
necklaces. Anyway, they are headed up the 1,000 Islands then the Trent-Severn,
so we will probably see more of them along the way. There is a special place in heaven for Greg
and Janis—good, patient people. This
family is making the run across the Lake today so we called to make sure all
was going well. They said they got an
early start and visibility was good enough and zero waves. They are fine—I would have been a nervous
wreck.
