After 6 locks yesterday we went across the bridge to dinner
(mixed results there- their sign says Steakhouse, not so). Our waitress, let’s just say was not focused. She
brought us passable Italian entrees, then salads, then cocktails, it got to be
funny. She showed great surprise that
Fitz ordered a Jack Daniels and water—never in her year working at this bar had
she had anyone order Jack with water. The
entire crowd at this restaurant was at the bar area and they were all playing a
local version of the lottery where you could win up to $450 dollars by picking
3- 5 numbers between 1 and 80 and they did this every 3 minutes. In the 2 hours we were there, we never heard
anyone squeal with victory—I think we had stumbled into a gambling joint. We then came back to the boat where it was
really quiet except you could hear a pump running. I, of course, just turned on a fan and didn’t
hear it anymore. We were running on the
inverter (free dock) so Fitz went to investigate. He did not find anything on our boat on and
it was really faint (just constant) so he gave up, determining it was one of
the other boats. Around 3am I woke up to
dead quiet—not good. The fan was off and
no clock illumination –the inverter’s batteries were dead. Around 4am the inverter kicked back on and I
quit worrying and slept. This morning at
7am we awoke to silence and Fitz turned on the generator (our poor neighbors). Because the weather is changing to rain and
windy we will stay here on the wall until it clears up. You want to cross Lake
Ontario when all is calm. This will give
us some time to investigate the inverter/pump issue.
