Belhaven

About 2 weeks ago we tried to look ahead and determine where we would be so we could order some parts through Amazon and get Nick to send our mail. We decided that Belhaven, NC. would be a nice little historic burg that we would enjoy. This is a sparsely populated part of North Carolina, we have seen only a handful of boats and people. The Waterway Guide had it as a big dot on the map and there were free city docks and lots of shops and restaurants described. Well, the go old internet tracking of our parts has now put them way behind in delivering and so now they are taking more like 2-3 weeks and we are ready to head toward the Chesapeake -that scheduling thing again—the boaters worst enemy. Belhaven is somewhat of a disappointment in that a lot of the shops and restaurants are closed down and the marinas are expensive and half empty—none free. It is the only place we have seen where ladies fine clothing is sold as well as a ½ dozen soft shell crab for $20—in the same shop! The Fish Hook Café has been a very pleasant surprise, the quaint museum was different and Classic Oldies on local radio are good. Maybe it is a mid-week thing and it gets better on the weekend but with weather coming in and our parts not here yet we will make due. I can address the ignored scanning project and Fitz always has a project. A bug that the Shipp’s warned us about the blind mosquito or midges are plentiful as well-- they are swarming mosquito- looking bugs that don’t bite merely secrete a green slim on your boat when they land-yuck. Dialing down to vacation mode is a little difficult when you’ve got places to go and people to see. I’ll have some wine with the whine.
