June in the Chesapeake

Top Rack Marina at mile marker 8.8 (8.8 miles from Norfolk, Va.) is where we sit ready to take on the 168 miles of the Chesapeake Bay plus the Potomac River with Washington DC. The last week has been spent working our way through the sparse country of North Carolina and now we are going to take on the big cities. Coinjock was behind us before 8am Sunday because we had 5 bridges that had to be opened and our first lock on the Atlantic. It was slow going and took working with others that weren’t quite on the same page as us. For those friends that said to let them know when we are doing the Chesapeake here goes: June 9-10-ish—Portsmouth/Norfolk, June 11th –mouth of the Potomac probably an anchorage, June 12th—Colonial Beach June 13th –Mount Vernon anchor and visit—June 14th Washington DC for a few days at the Capital Yacht Club Then we will come back down and stay at Point Lookout at the northern point of the Potomac on the Chesapeake where we can get mail and parts sent. Then continue up the Chesapeake to the Solomons, Oxford, Annapolis, Baltimore, Chestertown spending 1 or 2 nights in each more if we have anyone who would like to visit us.
Lots of traffic

  1. Try to go to St Michaels where they have the best museum of fishing we have ever been to. You can anchor in the back creek and not pay the pricey cost of the marina. Skipper Bob has the way to get in the back way. They also sell crab by the buckets that you just sit outside and eat. Awesome!!
Sorry you missed the beautiful Dismal Swamp. Just have to do it again.
Had 48 people at the Steak and Bake Sat and lots of people asked if we had heard from you. We been going to happy hour at both ends of the dock.
