For $1.50 round trip, seniors can take the 15 minute ferry across the bay to Norfolk so bright and early we went across to do a little banking and site see there. On this trip we have now gone through the Yorktown Aircraft Carrier, a destroyer, a submarine and now the Battleship Wisconsin. All of these were ships used in WWII but the Wisconsin was also commissioned for battle in Korea and Desert Storm and has now settled in Norfolk on display. It is in much better condition than the others but was probably refitted in the 1990’s. The Naval Museum was there as well and was interesting—the Captain, being the Navy man he was loved it a little more than me but it was an interesting morning. One of my students from Vanderbilt, Alex Passino grew up sailing on the Chesapeake and I heard from her and her Dad with some tips on where to go and what not to miss. Roy and Elvy Short had already given us some places to go so we have taken these, added the Passino’s advice and see how we can easily be on the Chesapeake through July 4th. New territory for us and the local knowledge is invaluable.
