Art Festival at Islamorada Key

We took the bus to Islamorada to check out a local art festival at the municipal park. The bus ride was an adventure—the stop in Marathon is apparently the local hangout for the homeless and they just wanted to tell you their story.—a rowdy community. They did not make us as nervous as the Greyhound type bus driver who was not concerned that we wanted to get off half way up—we kept the mile markers in sight and had to ask the bus driver to stop for us 40 miles up. The arts festival was pretty good—Sand sculptures, yard art, great photography pics, mermaid, hula hoop contest. The food was the best—a great fish sandwich from Craig’s Restaurant and the Frozen Key Lime Pie dipped in chocolate on a stick. Cecilia Lauren and the Ocoee Band played country rock--they were really good—reminded me of a band we would hear in a Nashville venue. The bus trip back was better there were nice kids sitting with us a girl from Estonia, a young hippie/sailor from South Africa, a young disabled veteran all with a story to share and curious about us. It was a quick ride back.
Mermaid and her castle--reminded us of Leeton
