Key Largo into Miami/Coconut Grove

We dingyed over to shore and we were a block from HWY 1—traffic was unbelievable. All of Miami and mainland Florida were heading south. Spotted were a Lambrigini, a Lotus, Maserati, and a custom Corvette—Fitz was most impressed, I was just glad we were not driving in it. It turns out the Vietnam Veterans Traveling Wall was making an appearance in Key Largo and there were a lot of people paying homage—a good thing. We had a great lunch at Hobo’s (bought the T-shirt—Help I have fallen and can’t reach my Beer!) and headed back to the boat for an early evening. We left Largo about 8:30am because the water level was high and we came through some narrow cuts. Oh my, what a fun day. The Italian Tune-Up worked and the engines were doing much better—the Captain was happy. When we were about 2 hours in we came out on Barnes Sound and there the dolphin met us. There were 3—2 babies and an adult and they surfed our wake for a good hour. We had heard they respond to the voice of a woman singing. So when they disappeared, I started searching my memory for a song. You all know I cannot carry a tune so this was risky. I was under pressure and the only songs I could come up with were my Grandma songs—Jesus Loves Me, the ABC song, etc. It seems dolphins aren’t picky—they came back! About 1pm Miami skyline came into view--we were in the Big City! A mooring ball in Dinner Key outside one of our favorite places—Coconut Grove was our destination. As we got nearer Miami there was a lot of trash talk and emergencies on the marine radio and whicle traffic on the water picked up it wasn't as crowded as you would have thought and by 2:30 we were hooked on a ball.
